Terminology Changes

We've updated several terms within the FME platform to better fit common usage.

  • Data Caching
    • We've renamed feature caching to data caching.
  • Record Counting
    • We've renamed feature counting to record counting.
  • Data Preview
    • We've renamed Visual Preview to Data Preview.
  • Record Information
    • We've renamed Feature Information window to Record Information window.
  • Source/Destination
    • We've added the concept of Source and Destination to Quick Add. These new filters capture readers, writers, and transformers that can read and write data. Readers and writers are not changing. Adding Source data and writing/publishing to a Destination is just an addition.

Note

Some training content might use the older terms.

New Canvas Actions and Quick Add Enhancements

A new Add button is now available directly on the workspace canvas. This lets users easily insert a Source (to bring data in), a Destination (to send data out), or a Transformer, speeding up initial workflow construction.

Note

Some training content might instruct you to filter by Readers/Writers in the Quick Add menu. Just choose Source or Destination, respectively.

Geometry on the Canvas

You can now see if your data has geometry directly on the Canvas. Look out for the <spatial> attribute on your feature types or transformers, which indicates geometry is present on your features.
